Peruvian consumer confidence edged up one point in the second quarter of 2017, thus scoring 97 from a baseline of 100 points, which place it as the highest index in Latin America, a Nielsen report revealed.
The survey titled Global Survey of Consumer Confidence and Spending Intentions was conducted online in 63 countries.
The Peruvian market —which registered its best
confidence score in the third quarter of 2016 (104 points)— ranks once again as one of the most optimistic in the region, as 57% of respondents believe their economic situation will remain in positive territory.
This trend is also reflected in the Andean country's economy, whose GDP increased 2.8% in the second quarter of 2017, mainly explained by an increase in private consumption and
exports.
Savings
The survey also reveals Peruvian consumers adopt a more responsible attitude towards savings.
In this sense, 70% of respondents affirmed they had changed some of their spending habits to save some money, if compared to the same period in 2016.
