14:03 | Tayacaja (Huancavelica region), May. 22.

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra on Tuesday monitored Daniel Hernandez Emblematic School in Andean Huancavelica region and reaffirmed his Government's commitment to public education, as a tool for development.

"This is a responsibility of the State. We have to make every effort to gradually improve the quality of public education," he expressed.

The Head of State recalled that he had attended a public school and graduated as an engineer from a public university as well.

Mr. Vizcarra affirmed children attending public schools will be well educated. Plus, he stressed that changing the idea that public institutions are at a disadvantage to private ones depends on everyone's efforts to correct and improve what needs to be fixed.

According to the Peruvian leader, both school infrastructure and teachers' competence contribute to improving the quality of public education.

Peru's top official admitted he knows the work of teachers first-hand since both his mother and his wife are educators.

In his address to students and teachers, the dignitary also pledged to manage the delivery of foods required to meet the demand of students in the full-time school day program (from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM).

"They need State support with nutrition. Therefore, we will coordinate with the Development and Social Inclusion Ministry so that efforts are also directed towards that end," the statesman pointed out.
